VAT for oldtimer import into The Netherlands back to 6% in 2012
With the new Budgetary Agreement 2013, the Dutch government has decided to decrease the VAT-rate for the performing arts and (import of) antiquities to 6%, effective July 1st 2012. This means the decision made by the government in December 2010 (nr. DV2010-537M) to increase the rate to 19% has been withdrawn.
One of the consequences of this decision is that oldtimer cars (older than 30 years) can once again be imported into The Netherlands using the low 6% VAT rate and no import duties. Good news for all oldtimer-enthusiasts!
